KUALA LUMPUR, June 13  — A moderate earthquake measuring 5.2 on the Richter scale struck Mindanao, the Philippines, at 10.05 am today.

The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) said the quake occurred at a depth of 10 kilometres (km), about 101 km south of Koronadal City.

“Initial assessments found no tsunami threat to Malaysia,” MetMalaysia said in a statement.

The latest quake comes days after a magnitude 7.8 earthquake struck southern Philippines, affecting hundreds of thousands of people in Mindanao, with tremors felt in parts of Tawau and Semporna in Sabah.

As of Thursday, the Philippines’ National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reported 47 deaths, 31 people missing and more than 346,000 affected by the disaster. — Bernama
