MetMalaysia warns of severe weather in six states, including Kota Kinabalu and Johor Bahru

KUALA LUMPUR, May 23 — Thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds are expected to affect six states until 3pm today, according to the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia).

In a statement today, MetMalaysia said the affected areas on the East Coast are Kuala Terengganu and Marang in Terengganu, as well as Kuantan, Bera, Pekan and Rompin in Pahang.

On the west coast of Peninsular Malaysia, similar weather conditions are forecast across the whole of Melaka and several areas in Negeri Sembilan, namely Seremban, Port Dickson, Kuala Pilah, Rembau, Jempol and Tampin.

In Johor, the affected areas are Tangkak, Segamat, Mersing, Kulai, Kota Tinggi and Johor Bahru.

Meanwhile, in Sabah, the warning covers the Interior areas of Sipitang, Tenom, Beaufort, Keningau and Tambunan, as well as the West Coast areas of Papar, Putatan, Penampang, Kota Kinabalu, Tuaran and Kota Belud.

The warning also covers Kudat and Kota Marudu in the Kudat division. — Bernama
