Motorcyclist, 62, killed after MPV rear-ends bike on Sepupok Bridge in Miri

MIRI, May 29 — A motorcyclist was killed in a fatal accident at Sepupok Bridge here late Thursday after his motorcycle was rear-ended by a multipurpose vehicle (MPV).

Miri police chief ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah said initial police investigations found that the 62-year-old rider was travelling from Niah towards Miri when he was hit from behind by the MPV.

“As a result of the collision, the victim was thrown onto the road. He was pronounced dead at the scene at approximately 9.40pm by a medical assistant from Batu Niah Health Clinic,” he said in a statement on Friday.

Mohd Farhan said the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by dangerous driving.

He urged members of the public with information regarding the incident to contact Traffic Investigation Officer Inspector Mohd Faizal Moktar at 012-818 6509 or 085-430479, or the nearest police station.

Mohd Farhan also advised road users to always practise prudent driving and comply with traffic regulations to avoid endangering other road users. — The Borneo Post
