KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 27 — A total of 3,811 Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) officers and personnel are fully prepared to ensure security and smooth traffic flow ahead of the 69th National Day celebration at Dataran Putrajaya.
Putrajaya police chief ACP Aidi Sham Mohamed said of the total, 2,357 officers and personnel had been deployed for static security and traffic control.
“A total of 1,755 officers and personnel have been assigned for static security, comprising personnel from the Kuala Lumpur contingent police headquarters (IPK), Selangor IPK, Putrajaya district police headquarters (IPD), as well as reinforcements from Bukit Aman to manage the influx of visitors, which is expected to reach 80,000,” he told Bernama when met today.
The detailed planning for the National Day celebration also involves cooperation from various agencies, including the Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF), Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM), Civil Defence Force (APM), People’s Volunteer Corps (Rela) and Putrajaya Corporation.
On the traffic management plan, Aidi Sham said road closures and diversions would be implemented in stages according to two main phases to minimise disruption to the flow of public traffic.
He said the first phase began yesterday, involving the full closure of Persiaran Perdana and Dataran Putra until Aug 29, from 6 am to noon, while traffic control will be implemented at Jalan Laman Perdana, Jalan P2A, Jalan P2T, Jalan P2S, Jalan P2W and Jalan P2Y.
“The second phase will begin as early as 5 am on Aug 30 until 6 pm on Aug 31, involving the closure of all major access routes to the Core Island Putrajaya area,” he said.
Aidi Sham said the main routes and bridges involved in the full closure during the second phase are Seri Wawasan Bridge, Seri Saujana Bridge, Seri Gemilang Bridge, Putra Bridge and Seri Ehsan Bridge.
He said the roads involved in the full closure during the second phase are Lebuh Bestari, Lebuh Setia, Lebuh Saujana, Lebuh Gemilang, Lebuh Wawasan, Lebuh Sentosa, Jalan Tun Hussein, Persiaran Barat and Persiaran Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah (PSSAAS).
He added that residents around Core Island P18 will be able to use Seri Bestari Bridge and Seri Setia Bridge.
He advised the public to plan their journeys, arrive early at the celebration venue and use public transport to avoid traffic congestion.
“A total of 103 free shuttle buses have been provided by Putrajaya Corporation to ferry visitors to and from two main pick-up points, namely Putrajaya Sentral and the Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC), directly to Dataran Putra.”
Meanwhile, Aidi Sham also stressed that the airspace throughout Putrajaya had been gazetted as a no-fly zone for drones from the rehearsal sessions until the day of the celebration, and the public is strictly prohibited from operating any drones without permission from the authorities.
Visitors are also reminded not to bring sharp or dangerous items to ensure that the event environment remains safe, smooth and peaceful for everyone to enjoy with their families. — Bernama
