SEREMBAN, Sept 9 — Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar Datuk Ismail Lasim has denied claims that Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi was involved in attempts to remove Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir as the Yang diPertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan.

Ismail said he hoped the issue concerning Negeri Sembilan’s customs and traditions would be resolved amicably and in accordance with the law, in the interests of stability, harmony and the well-being of the people.

“Following a report published by The Straits Times today (Sept 8), I wish to deny claims that UMNO president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi was involved in any attempt to remove Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir as the Yang diPertuan of Negeri Sembilan,” he said in a statement yesterday.

Ismail said he had always supported the Umno president and the party’s leadership, which had consistently upheld, defended and safeguarded the dignity of the Malay royal institution and the principles of constitutional monarchy. — Bernama
