Nine students injured after school bus carrying 36 crashes in Sabah

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 31 — Nine students from Sekolah Menengah (SM) Sains Sabah suffered minor injuries after a bus carrying 35 students and a teacher was involved in an accident on the Kota Belud-Kundasang road in Sabah this morning.

According to Utusan Malaysia, the crash happened at about 11am at the Simpang Tiga junction.

Kota Belud Fire and Rescue Station chief Elge Bakuk said firefighters were dispatched to the scene after receiving an emergency call.

He said two personnel and an Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) vehicle were sent to the site, about 39km from the station.

“All the victims were later taken to Kota Belud Hospital for further treatment using ambulances from the Health Ministry in Tuaran and Kota Belud, as well as an ambulance from the Malaysian Civil Defence Force,” he said.

Elge said firefighters carried out checks at the scene to ensure the area was safe before ending the operation at 12.32pm.

No fatalities were reported, while the cause of the accident remains under investigation.
