PUTRAJAYA, May 12 — Outgoing Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki has issued a stern reminder to his officers to extend their full, unwavering support to his successor, Datuk Seri Abdul Halim Aman.

Speaking at his retirement ceremony today, Azam warned that any form of non-cooperation or internal resistance would be viewed as an act of sabotage against the commission itself.

He said that the integrity of the MACC hinges on the discipline of its officers during leadership transitions.

“There must be no sabotage of the new chief commissioner’s leadership. Full cooperation must be given to the incoming leadership,” Azam said during his farewell address.

He noted that being aligned with the new chief commissioner is not just a matter of preference, but a necessity for the organisation’s survival.

Touching on the importance of institutional continuity, Azam stressed that the MACC must remain relevant by building upon the foundations laid by previous leaders.

He described his own tenure as a period of carrying forward a legacy entrusted to him for the benefit of the nation and the Malaysian people.

Drawing from his extensive career serving under multiple administrations, Azam reminded the rank and file that professionalism must always transcend personal feelings.

He noted that regardless of who is appointed to lead, the core duty of an officer remains the same: to serve the public with loyalty and diligence.

“From my past experience with officers in the agency, whoever is appointed as head, we remain loyal,” he added. “We guide them in their role as officers serving the people, because ultimately our duty is to serve the public.”

The leadership transition officially takes effect tomorrow, when Abdul Halim is expected to clock in and formally assume his duties as the new head of the country’s anti-graft body.
