KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 12 — The Election Commission of Malaysia (EC) has announced that a by-election (PRK) for the Subang parliamentary constituency will not be held following the resignation of its incumbent, Wong Chen, as the Member of Parliament.

EC Chairman Datuk Seri Ramlan Harun said this is based on Article 54(1) of the Federal Constitution, as Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Dr. Johari Abdul has informed the EC that there is no need to fill the vacancy.

“No by-election for the P.104 Subang Parliamentary Constituency will be held,” he said in a statement last night.

He added that the EC received notification from Johari via a letter dated today (August 11) regarding the status of the casual vacancy of the Subang parliamentary seat after it was declared vacant under Article 51 of the Federal Constitution.

Earlier, Johari confirmed at the special meeting of the Dewan Rakyat yesterday that he had officially received Wong Chen’s resignation notice yesterday. — Bernama
