KUANTAN, Aug 17 — Police have received three reports regarding the incident of a statue at a non-Muslim place of worship being vandalised in Bukit Tinggi, Bentong, yesterday.
Pahang acting police chief Datuk Azry Akmar Ayob said the three police reports were made by a 49-year-old security guard, a 45-year-old monk and a 41-year-old man.
“The police have gone to the scene and initial investigations found that there were no closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras installed in the temple area and there were no independent witnesses who saw the incident,” he said in a statement today.
Meanwhile, Azry Akmar said his party viewed the incident seriously and investigations were still underway to identify the cause and the parties involved.
The case is being investigated under Section 295 of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
Meanwhile, he also advised the public not to speculate or spread information, especially via social media, which could affect the investigation or cause public concern.
“Any information regarding this incident should be channelled to the police to assist in the investigation,” he said. — Bernama
