JOHOR BAHRU, June 10 — PAS has appointed former federal minister Tan Sri Annuar Musa as its Johor election director ahead of the upcoming state polls.
Johor PAS information chief Mohd Firdaus Jaffar said the appointment was aimed at strengthening the party’s preparations for the election.
“PAS Johor welcomes Tan Sri Annuar Musa’s appointment as the party’s state election director.
“We are confident that his experience and leadership will help strengthen the preparations as well as coordination for the Johor polls,” he said in a statement today.
Mohd Firdaus said the party machinery in Johor has been instructed to remain united and fully focused on election preparations.
“With the election approaching, the entire Johor PAS machinery is called to continue strengthening its unity within the ranks and fully focus on the election preparations,” he said.
Annuar, a former Umno leader and federal minister, joined PAS in 2023.
The 70-year-old has since played an active role in PAS and Perikatan Nasional (PN), particularly on political strategy.
Mohd Firdaus also said Johor PAS supports the party leadership’s decision to end political cooperation with Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu).
“Obviously, the issue was explained and discussed during the special meeting held at the Johor PAS office last night.
“All members had unanimously expressed their commitment to respect, comply with and implement the decision,” he said.
Mohd Firdaus said Johor PAS does not believe the move will affect efforts to unite the ummah, which remains a core objective of the party.
He said the state chapter would continue to support any political understanding or electoral pact decided by the party’s central leadership.
Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi announced the dissolution of the state assembly on June 1 after obtaining the consent of Johor Regent Tunku Mahkota Ismail.
The dissolution paves the way for a state election to be held within 60 days.
