Penampang man suffers burns to 80pc of body in apartment fire involving LPG cylinder

KUALA LUMPUR, June 8 — A 29-year-old man suffered severe burns after a fire involving a liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinder broke out in an apartment unit in Penampang, Sabah, today.

The victim sustained burns to nearly 80 per cent of his body in the incident, which occurred in the kitchen of the residence.

According to Berita Harian, Penampang Fire and Rescue Station chief Assistant Fire Superintendent Zeno Tingalan said emergency services were alerted at 11.15am, prompting the deployment of six firefighters, a fire engine and an Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) unit to the scene.

“One victim suffered burns to approximately 80 per cent of his body as a result of the incident.

“Firefighters immediately administered initial treatment to the victim before he was taken to hospital for further medical attention.

“The fire and rescue team also carried out inspections to ensure there were no further hazards at the scene,” he said, as reported by the national daily.

Zeno said the cause of the incident and the extent of the losses remain under investigation.
