KUALA LUMPUR, May 19 — The Haj pilgrimage is not merely a spiritual journey; rather, it is a school of education and spiritual upbringing that shapes the soul, purifies the heart, and breathes new spirit into returning to serve religion, the people, and the nation with greater sincerity and compassion.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said that history also teaches us that the spirit of freedom and courage among Muslims is often awakened after pilgrims returned from Makkah, as documented when studying the uprising of the people of Aceh against Dutch colonialism.

“Alhamdulillah, today I had the opportunity to spend time with the Haj pilgrims from Permatang Pauh and Tambun who will soon become the guests of Allah SWT.

“During this occasion, I also shared the story of Malcolm X, who returned from the Holy Land with a soul and outlook on life that was far broader, more peaceful, and more deeply aware of the brotherhood of mankind,” he said in a Facebook post today.

He also prayed that all pilgrims would be granted an accepted Haj (haji mabrur), have all their affairs eased, and return home bringing a renewed spirit for their families, society, and our beloved Malaysia. — Bernama
