
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 19 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has ordered the Immigration Department to immediately conduct a thorough investigation into a crash involving one of its trucks that killed three members of a family at Maju Junction here early today.
“If there was negligence or a breach of the law, appropriate action must be taken without compromise,” Anwar said in a Facebook post.
Anwar also extended his condolences over the of the tragedy.
According to preliminary police investigations, the crash occurred at about 1am when an Immigration Department Isuzu “Black Maria” truck entered the Jalan Sultan Ismail intersection against a red light with its beacon lights and siren activated.
Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief ACP Mohd Zamzuri Mohd Isa said the truck collided with a Proton Saga travelling through a green light before skidding into four pedestrians from the same family and an Inokom Matrix.
A 53-year-old man and his two daughters, aged 25 and 12, died at the scene, while his 55-year-old wife was injured and taken to Kuala Lumpur Hospital.
Police have detained the Immigration truck driver and the Proton Saga driver to assist investigations under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
