KUALA LUMPUR, June 29 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is scheduled to launch the new version of the Malaysian International Passport, equipped with 94 security features, at the Parliament lobby Tuesday.
The upgraded travel document is part of the government’s continuous efforts to strengthen the security of the country’s identity documents, in line with its status as one of the world’s most powerful passports.
The new passport features a significant enhancement over the current version, which has only 49 security features, making it more secure and difficult to forge.
Among the upgraded features are holographic elements, ultraviolet (UV) printing, hidden visual elements and several specialised forensic security features.
Enhanced security has also been incorporated into the thread used to bind the passport booklet, while each page has been designed with a unique layout.
Earlier this year, Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail announced that Malaysia would introduce redesigned passports and MyKad to further strengthen the country’s data security.
The Malaysian International Passport was ranked the world’s third most powerful passport in 2025, according to the Passport Index rankings. — Bernama
