KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 2 — Police have arrested nine people following an alleged riot outside a cafe in Desa Tun Razak, Sungai Besi, which investigators believe stemmed from a dispute over business territory.

Kosmo reported today that the incident occurred at about 11pm last night, citing Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Fadil Marsus.

Fadil reprotedly said officers from the Sungai Besi police station’s Motorcycle Patrol Unit, the Cheras district Criminal Investigation Department and other Cheras district police personnel were dispatched to the scene after receiving information about the disturbance.

“Preliminary investigations found that the fight stemmed from a disagreement over business territory in the area,” he reportedly said in a statement today.

Police arrested eight men and one woman, aged between 16 and 44, near the scene, including two individuals identified as the main suspects in the case.

Checks found that most of those detained had previous records involving criminal and drug-related offences, according to police.

Several items believed to have been used during the incident were also seized, while all nine suspects were detained to assist investigations.

The case is reportedly being investigated under Section 148 of the Penal Code for rioting while armed, which carries a maximum five-year prison term, a fine or both upon conviction.

Fadil also urged the public not to speculate or circulate unverified information that could interfere with the investigation.

Pictures and videos of the incident had earlier circulated on social media, showing a group gathered outside the premises, with police officers and patrol motorcycles also seen at the location.

Those with information can contact the Kuala Lumpur police hotline at 03-2115 9999, the Cheras district police headquarters at 03-9205 0445 or 03-9205 0465, or their nearest police station.
