ALOR SETAR, Aug 8 — Police carried out a process to neutralise a piece of luggage suspected of containing explosives after it was left unattended at Block B of the Immigration/Customs inspection area at the Immigration, Customs, Quarantine and Security (ICQS) Complex in Bukit Kayu Hitam last night.

Kubang Pasu police chief Supt Mohd Radzi Abdul Rahim said the pink luggage was found at about 5.55 pm after no one came forward to claim it.

“The luggage was then taken for scanning and Customs personnel found images indicating the possible presence of suspected drugs and explosive materials.

“The Bomb Disposal Unit (UPB) from the Kedah Police Headquarters arrived at the scene at 8.45 pm to neutralise the luggage after assessing the risks surrounding the building, with priority given to the safety of lives,” he said.

He said the ICQS Complex was also closed from 9.30 pm to 11.30 pm to facilitate the neutralisation process by the UPB.

“The luggage was opened at 11 pm, and no explosive materials were found. Further inspection found only clothes, oil in a container, a black hairdryer, shampoo and lotion,” he added. — Bernama
