KUALA LUMPUR, July 5 — Police have obtained a four‑day remand order against ten male teenagers detained in connection with an assault on a student who was on his way to Friday prayers in Merotai Besar.

The remand order, effective today until Wednesday, was issued by Magistrate Don Stiwin Malanjum to allow police to continue investigations under Section 147 of the Penal Code, according to Harian Metro.

A police team from the Tawau District Police Headquarters and Bombalai Police Station arrested the suspects, aged 14 to 17, at 2pm yesterday.

“They were detained to assist investigations into the assault involving a 14‑year‑old boy and three of his friends,” the report said.

Police said the incident gained widespread attention after a video lasting nearly two minutes showing the assault went viral on social media.
