KOTA BHARU, Aug 25 — A plantation supervisor was seriously injured after being attacked by a group of individuals armed with machetes, iron rods and wooden clubs during an altercation at a workers’ quarters in Kampung RKT Kesedar Chalil, Gua Musang, yesterday.
Gua Musang police chief Supt Sik Choon Foo said the incident occurred at about 3.15pm after a group of men, believed to be representatives of a company with interests in the area, arrived at the quarters to seek clarification regarding permits to enter a forest reserve.
“A dispute broke out when a man was allegedly assaulted by two individuals from the group. A plantation worker who attempted to intervene was subsequently attacked by the group using weapons such as machetes, iron rods and wooden clubs,” he said in a statement today.
He said the 35-year-old local man sustained several serious injuries, including a fractured left arm and shinbone, an injured tendon in his left leg, bruising and swelling around his left eye, as well as a nosebleed.
Sik said the case was being investigated under Sections 326 and 148 of the Penal Code.
“The police advise the public against making any speculation regarding the incident that could cause confusion within the community,” he said.
