KUALA LUMPUR, May 25 — An 18-year-old girl, who was on a hiking trip with her family at Bukit Asa in Hulu Bernam yesterday, is feared missing.
Hulu Selangor district police chief ACP Ibrahim Husin said police received information about the incident involving Nur Izzati Humaira Azizul from the Tanjong Malim Fire and Rescue Station at 2.30pm.
He said initial investigations found that the victim, who had started the hike at 8.40am with six family members, asked her mother for the car keys at 10.50am so she could head down early, saying she could not cope with the heat and was feeling tired.
“However, when the victim’s mother reached the vehicle at 11.35am, she found that the victim was not there and is believed to have gone missing while making her way down the hill alone.
“The victim was last seen wearing a long brown hijab, a dark green long-sleeved top, black trousers and blue shoes,” he said in a statement today.
Following this, Ibrahim said the search and rescue (SAR) operation was launched yesterday, running from 4.38pm to 11.53pm amid light rain, before resuming today at 9.30am this morning.
He said today’s operation involves 51 personnel from various agencies, including the Fire and Rescue Department, police, the Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM), the Social Welfare Department (JKM), mountain guides and volunteers.
He urged the public with any information to contact the Hulu Selangor district police headquarters at 03-6064 1222 or the investigating officer at 05-459 6389. — Bernama
