
RANAU, May 22 — Police are tracking down a 35-year-old man with a previous murder case record following an assault and criminal intimidation incident at a grocery store in Kampung Matupang here on Tuesday.
District police chief Supt. Mursalin Mahmud said a 19-year-old victim lodged a police report at about 3.56pm on May 21, claiming he was beaten and threatened by a man known to him.
He said initial investigations found the incident occurred at about 6pm on May 19 when the victim, a palm oil weigher, was buying daily necessities at the grocery store before the suspect allegedly scolded him and produced a brass knuckle.
Mursalin said the suspect allegedly threatened the victim before punching and kicking him repeatedly, causing injuries to the victim’s lip, shoulder and back, and the victim later sought medical treatment.
He said the case is being investigated under Section 323 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt and Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation, while a video of the incident has also gone viral on social media. — Daily Express
