Police: Sri Petaling bomb scare turns out to be team-building game equipment left behind by worker

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 16 — A suspicious plastic box found unattended in front of a shoplot in Bandar Baru Sri Petaling earlier today contained toy building blocks belonging to a company that organises training and team-building programmes, police said today.

Brickfields police chief Assistant Commissioner Hoo Chang Hook said police were contacted by a company director, who informed them that the unattended plastic box belonged to his company.

“Investigations found that the box had been left behind by a company employee and contained 20 plastic toy blocks from a game called ‘Radioactive Bomb’, which are used as equipment for group team-building activities.

“Following a team-building programme in Ipoh, Perak, from September 11 to 12, the employee brought the game equipment home but is believed to have accidentally left the box in front of Watsons Sri Petaling while on his way home at about 11pm on September 12,” he told reporters here.

Hoo said the employee had accidentally left the plastic box at the scene due to fatigue after completing the team-building programme.

“Based on the statements obtained, the plastic box and its contents were game equipment belonging to his company and used for team-building activities, with no connection to any criminal activity,” he said.

Hoo added that further checks found the company offers a game called “Radioactive Bomb”, which is designed to encourage cooperation among team members and enhance participants’ mental agility.

“The game is also accompanied by a game module provided by the company in PDF format,” he said.

On September 14, a police bomb disposal unit was called to the scene following a public alert over the discovery.

The box was subsequently destroyed using a bomb disposal device.
