KUALA LUMPUR, July 1 — Japanese conveyor-belt sushi chain Sushiro has temporarily closed its Suria KLCC outlet from today following guidance from Malaysian health authorities, saying it is working to meet official requirements before reopening.

In a statement posted on its official social media accounts today, the restaurant chain said the closure took effect on July 1.

“Sushiro KLCC store has been temporarily closed effective 1 July 2026 following guidance from the Malaysian health authorities,” the company said.

It said it was “currently working closely with the Malaysian health authorities to meet the required conditions and take the necessary steps toward resuming operations.”

The company did not disclose the reason for the closure or specify what conditions had been imposed by the authorities.

Sushiro apologised to customers for the disruption, saying: “We sincerely apologise for the significant inconvenience and concern caused to our valued customers due to this temporary closure.”

It added that it was “fully committed to resuming operations as soon as possible” and asked customers for their “patience, understanding, and cooperation during this time.”

The company said updates on the reopening would be announced through Sushiro’s official social media channels.

Founded in Japan in 1984, Sushiro is one of the country’s largest conveyor-belt sushi chains, operating more than 800 outlets worldwide.

The company made its Malaysian debut with the opening of its Suria KLCC restaurant in March 2025, which quickly drew long queues.

It is also expanding its local footprint to Petaling Jaya, with a new outlet at 1 Utama Shopping Centre scheduled to open this Friday and another at Sunway Pyramid planned to follow.
