KUALA LUMPUR, June 29 — Bursa Malaysia ended the morning session lower as persistent profit-taking in selected heavyweight stocks, particularly the healthcare, financial and plantation counters, weighed on market sentiment.
At 12.30 pm, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) dropped 4.74 points to 1,663.00 from Friday’s close of 1,667.74.
The benchmark index opened 1.04 points higher at 1,668.78, which also marked its intraday high, before sliding to a low of 1,655.28 during the session.

Hong Leong Investment Bank Bhd said in a note today that the FBM KLCI is likely to remain volatile and headline-driven in the near term, with sentiment shaped by West Asia developments and upcoming domestic state elections.
It said domestically, the lack of fresh catalysts and persistent foreign fund outflows are likely to keep sentiment subdued, while political risk premiums remain elevated ahead of the Johor and Negeri Sembilan state elections (July 11 and Aug 1, respectively) amid speculation over an early 16th general election despite Parliament’s mandate until February 2028.
