Sabah Electricity confirms fatal electrocution during pole replacement works in Sandakan, one injured

SANDAKAN, Aug 24 — A worker was electrocuted during installation works on an electric pole at Bandar Tabin Jaya, here on Saturday.

Sandakan Fire and Rescue (Bomba) station chief, Senior Assistant Superintendent Jimmy Lagung, said a team was dispatched to the location after they received a distress call at 7.53pm.

“Upon arrival, the victim, who was a contractor worker, was found on the pole.

“Personnel from the Sabah Electricity helped disconnect the electricity before the man was brought down using special equipment,” he said in a statement.

Jimmy said the worker was confirmed dead on site by paramedics, and the body was later handed to the police for further action.

The operation ended at 9.40pm.

Meanwhile, Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (Sabah Electricity) has confirmed the incident involving two contractor workers during electrical pole replacement works near the traffic light junction leading to Taman Mawar here, on Aug 22.

It stated that the incident resulted in death of one worker.

“The other worker sustained injuries, and is now reported to be in stable condition,” said the utility provider in a statement, in which it extended its condolences to the family of the deceased and expressed its sympathy to the injured worker.

“The company is providing full cooperation to the relevant authorities to determine the actual cause of the incident.

“All related works on the site have been temporarily suspended pending the completion of investigations.

“Sabah Electricity takes the incident seriously and remains committed to ensuring that safety is given the highest priority by all parties involved, including contractors, in all work activities and operations,” it said. — The Borneo Post
