KUCHING, Aug 16 — All primary and secondary schools under the Serian District Education Office (PPD) will operate as usual from tomorrow, the Sarawak Education Department (JPNS) said in a statement today.
It said any changes or latest updates would be announced from time to time, while schools have been reminded to prioritise the health and safety of students, teachers and school personnel.
“JPNS will continue to emphasise the welfare, health and safety of students, especially when facing hot weather or any unexpected weather conditions.
“Schools are reminded to follow the stipulated standard operating procedures and refer to the Ministry of Education Malaysia (MOE) Circular Letter No. 1 of 2019; Measures by the MOE to Ensure the Health and Safety of Students in Schools Located in Areas with Critical Haze Conditions dated Jan 15, 2019,” the statement said.
JPNS said all educational institutions under its supervision should also follow the guidelines contained in the MOE Circular Letter No. 3 of 2023; Guidelines for the Implementation of Outdoor Activities at Educational Institutions under the MOE During Hot Weather dated June 6, 2023.
It added that schools should stay updated by referring to the Department of Environment’s official portal and the Air Pollutant Index Management System (APIMS) to monitor air quality levels in their respective areas, while adhering to advice from the Ministry of Health to safeguard the well-being of students and education personnel. — Bernama
