SHAH ALAM, July 1 — The Selangor government has instructed Prasarana Malaysia Bhd and developers to urgently complete missing pedestrian infrastructure around newly operational LRT3 Shah Alam Line stations after safety gaps were identified following the line’s launch.
Selangor Local Government and Tourism Committee chairman Datuk Ng Suee Lim said inspections revealed incomplete walkways and connecting routes in certain areas, posing safety concerns for pedestrians.
“As it is now running, we’ve found that netizens have highlighted infrastructure that remains incomplete. In some places, work that should have been finished has not been completed due to constraints on the ground. As a result, there are safety risks to users, with missing walkways and other issues,” he told reporters after a site visit here.
“We went down to inspect the site and identify the issues, including why there were missing walkways. We found that Prasarana had not managed to complete certain sections, particularly additional connecting routes. They faced constraints such as permit issues. We have instructed Prasarana to complete the works at Dato’ Menteri Station (in Seksyen 14) within two months,” he added.
Ng said the Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) would monitor progress closely and inspect all LRT3 stations under its jurisdiction to identify and rectify similar shortcomings.
“We’ve instructed MBSA to inspect every station under its jurisdiction. If there are any shortcomings, we don’t want to overlook them. We’ll check each one individually,” he said.
He added that developers, including PKNS and MRCB, would also be called in to address outstanding pedestrian infrastructure linked to their respective projects.
Selangor Youth, Sports and Entrepreneurship Executive Councillor Mohd Najwan Halimi, who was also present, said immediate mitigation measures such as reviewing traffic light timings and improving pedestrian crossings could help improve safety while permanent works are completed.
“There is a zebra crossing, but the pedestrian route isn’t complete. I think MBSA should review the traffic lights and, if possible, install a more practical countdown timer for pedestrians crossing the road. I noticed that some people are not using the zebra crossing and are instead jaywalking,” said the Kota Anggerik assemblyman.
The LRT3 Shah Alam Line began operations following its official launch by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim last Sunday.
A video that went viral on social media earlier highlighted pedestrians navigating incomplete walkways and crossing busy roads near the Stadium Shah Alam LRT station–Aeon Mall–Management and Science University (MSU) corridor, prompting action from the authorities.
