KUALA LUMPUR, July 6 — Police arrested a driver suspected of involvement in a hit-and-run that killed a motorcyclist on Jalan Tun Razak near Kuala Lumpur Hospital (HKL) at 6am yesterday.
Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department Chief Assistant Commissioner (ACP) Mohd Zamzuri Mohd Isa said preliminary investigations revealed the 29-year-old male motorcyclist riding a Yamaha 135LC was believed to have been rammed from behind by a car.
“The victim fell onto the road and sustained severe head injuries from the collision. He was pronounced dead at the scene by a Kuala Lumpur Hospital assistant medical officer,” he said in a statement last night.
Mohd Zamzuri said police later located the car involved, a ‘sambung bayar’ vehicle that the driver had been using at the time of the accident.
He added the 30-year-old driver voluntarily surrendered at the Kuala Lumpur Traffic Police Station around 6.30pm before being detained under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
“The suspect underwent a breathalyser test and a preliminary urine screening. Both tests came back negative for alcohol and drugs,” he said.
Mohd Zamzuri urged members of the public with information regarding the incident to contact the Tun H.S. Lee Traffic Police Station at 03-2071 9999 or the nearest police station to assist in the investigation. — Bernama
