PUTRAJAYA, Aug 12 — The Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) report on Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH) will go to the relevant authorities for a full investigation based on all findings and information contained in the report, Communications Minister Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil said.
He said the authorities included the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), agencies responsible for matters under the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act (AMLA), Bank Negara Malaysia and the Inland Revenue Board (IRB).
“As a start, we will hand it over to the authorities as announced by the Prime Minister (Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim), whether the PDRM, MACC, AMLA, Bank Negara or IRB, to conduct a full investigation based on all the findings.
“This includes information contained in the report, as well as additional information provided by Finance Minister II (Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan) and Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Dr Zulkifli Hasan during the special Dewan Rakyat sitting on the Tabung Haji RCI report, yesterday.”
He said this to reporters after attending the Handover of Sponsorship Contributions for the 2026 National Day and Malaysia Day (HKHM) celebrations here today.
The TH RCI report was made public on July 29. It documented various management and operational weaknesses at TH between 2014 and 2020 and made 25 recommendations for improvement, 75 per cent of which had been implemented by TH as of July 30 this year.
Asked about calls by Barisan Nasional (BN) and Pakatan Harapan (PH) lawmakers for the government to establish a new TH RCI covering the 2021-2025 period, Fahmi, who is also Madani Government spokesman, said it would need the Cabinet and the King to decide.
“We all know that the decision to have the RCI was not only a Cabinet decision. As it is a Royal Commission of Inquiry, it also required the consent of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong,” he said.
Meanwhile, Fahmi described the attendance of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) MPs at yesterday’s special Dewan Rakyat sitting to debate the TH RCI report as a wise and appropriate move.
He said this contrasted with other opposition parties in Perikatan Nasional (PN), which did not attend the debate.
“We must remember that this RCI was established in 2021 when PAS members and the Leader of the Opposition (Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin) were members of the Cabinet.
“But what I regret is that they did not attend the debate at all. They have missed a good opportunity.
“Perhaps…I am not sure, they were there when the RCI was initiated and when it completed its work, but they refused to attend the debate. What are they running away from?” he said.
Thirty-nine MPs debated the RCI report after Zulkifli presented his ministerial briefing on the matter at the special Dewan Rakyat sitting yesterday.
Some opposition MPs, however, staged a walkout from the Dewan Rakyat and boycotted the ministerial briefing and debate sessions after objecting to Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul’s decision to proceed without the presence of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. — Bernama
