Three die after Toyota Vios and Honda City collide on JB-Mersing road

KOTA TINGGI, Aug 26 — Three people died after a two-vehicle crash at KM 80 of the Johor Bahru–Mersing Road on Monday evening, police said.

Kota Tinggi OCPD Supt Yusof Othman said in a statement that police received a report of the accident at around 5:25pm.

The collision involved a Toyota Vios, driven by a 21-year-old local man with a 20-year-old local woman as a passenger, and a Honda City driven by a 35-year-old local man.

All three occupants suffered severe head and body injuries and were pronounced dead at the scene by the attending medical assistant, according to the statement. Their bodies have been sent to the Forensic Unit at Kota Tinggi Hospital for further investigation.

Police said the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which carries a punishment of five to ten years’ imprisonment, a fine of RM20,000 to RM50,000, and a minimum five-year driving disqualification upon conviction.

Investigations into the accident are ongoing. Police have appealed to members of the public with information on the crash to come forward to the Traffic Division at Kota Tinggi District Police Headquarters or any nearby police station.

The police chief also urged road users to remain vigilant and adhere to traffic laws to help ensure safety on the roads.
