Three young motorcyclists killed, nine injured as 15 vehicles collide in pre‑dawn Ipoh crash

IPOH, Sept 19 — Three motorcyclists were killed and nine others injured in a crash involving 12 motorcycles and three cars along Jalan Jelapang-Ampang here early today.

Ipoh district police chief Assistant Commissioner Muhammad Najib Hamzah said the incident was reported at 3.35am, Harian Metro (HM) reported.

Preliminary investigations showed all 15 vehicles were heading from Meru towards Tambun when the collision occurred.

“Two motorcyclists aged 19 and 20 were confirmed dead at the scene. Nine others, aged between 19 and 25, who sustained injuries were taken to Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital (HRPB) for treatment,” he said in a statement to HM.

Another 19 year old rider died while receiving treatment in HRPB’s Emergency and Trauma Department, bringing the total fatalities to three.

All three car drivers escaped injury.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. Police are working to establish the cause and sequence of events.

Members of the public with information are urged to contact the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division at Ipoh district police headquarters.
