KUALA LUMPUR, July 3 — The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a thunderstorm warning for parts of Negeri Sembilan, Melaka, Johor, and Sarawak, urging residents to prepare for heavy rain, thunderstorms, and strong winds.
The advisory, issued at 9.00am today, remains valid until 12.00 noon.
The affected areas include:
- Negeri Sembilan: Seremban, Port Dickson, Kuala Pilah, Rembau, and Tampin.
- Melaka: Entire state.
- Johor: Tangkak, Muar, and Batu Pahat.
- Sarawak: Sri Aman, Betong, Sarikei (Pakan and Julau), Sibu (Kanowit), and Kapit (Song).
MetMalaysia triggers these short-term advisories, which are valid for up to six hours, when rainfall intensity is expected to exceed 20mm per hour for more than an hour.
Residents in these regions are urged to take immediate precautions.
This includes avoiding outdoor activities, staying clear of flood-prone areas, and remaining alert for sudden downpours and strong gusts of wind.
