Thunderstorms and strong winds to lash 10 states, MetMalaysia urges public to stay alert

KUALA LUMPUR, May 11 — Thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds are expected to affect 10 states until 9pm today. 

In a statement, the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) said the areas expected to be affected are Kuala Muda, Sik, Baling and Kulim in Kedah; Larut, Matang and Selama, Kuala Kangsar, Kinta and Kampar in Perak; Gua Musang, Kelantan, as well as Hulu Terengganu, Dungun and Kemaman in Terengganu. 

Similar weather is also expected in Pahang, affecting Cameron Highlands, Lipis, Raub, Bentong, Kuantan and Pekan; Selangor (Hulu Selangor); Negeri Sembilan (Jelebu, Seremban, Kuala Pilah, Rembau and Tampin); and Johor (Segamat, Kluang, Kulai, Kota Tinggi and Johor Bahru). 

In Sarawak, the affected areas include Samarahan (Simunjan), Sri Aman, Betong (Pusa, Betong and Saratok), Sarikei, Sibu (Kanowit), Kapit (Song and Belaga), Miri (Beluru, Telang Usan, Miri and Marudi) and Limbang. 

In Sabah, the affected areas include Pedalaman, Pantai Barat (Papar, Putatan, Penampang, Kota Kinabalu, Tuaran and Kota Belud) and Tawau, as well as the Federal Territory of Labuan. — Bernama
