Thunderstorms, heavy rain warning for nine states, KL and Putrajaya until 5pm

KUALA LUMPUR, May 6 — Thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds are expected to hit nine states as well as Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Labuan until 5pm today, according to the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia).

In a statement, MetMalaysia said the affected areas include Kedah, Perak, Penang, Selangor, Negeri Sembilan, Melaka, Johor, Sarawak and Sabah.

In Kedah, the warning covers Kuala Muda, Sik, Baling, Kulim and Bandar Baharu, while in Perak, it involves Kerian, Larut, Matang and Selama, Hulu Perak, Bagan Datuk and Hilir Perak.

In Selangor, the affected areas are Sabak Bernam, Kuala Selangor, Klang, Gombak, Petaling, Kuala Langat, Hulu Langat and Sepang.

MetMalaysia said similar conditions are also expected in Seremban, Port Dickson and Rembau in Negeri Sembilan, as well as Pontian, Kulai, Kota Tinggi and Johor Bahru in Johor.

The warning also covers Melaka.

In Sarawak, the affected areas include Bau and Kuching in Kuching division, Serian, Samarahan, Sri Aman, Betong, Sarikei, Sibu, parts of Mukah, Kapit, Bintulu, Miri and Limbang.

In Sabah, the warning covers Sipitang, Kuala Penyu and Beaufort in the Interior, as well as Papar, Putatan, Penampang, Kota Kinabalu, Tuaran and Kota Belud on the West Coast, along with Tawau and Kudat. — Bernama
