JOHOR BAHRU, May 14 — A two-year-old boy is fighting for his life after falling from the fifth floor of a People’s Housing Project (PPR) flat in Bandar Uda Utama here today.
Johor Bahru North police chief Assistant Commissioner Radin Ramlan Radin Taha said authorities were alerted to the incident at 10:30 am.
The toddler was discovered lying in the parking area of the flat block before being rushed to Sultanah Aminah Hospital (HSA) for emergency treatment.
“The victim suffered serious injuries to his face, head, and neck from the fall,” Radin Ramlan said in a statement.
“He is currently in critical condition and is suspected to have internal bleeding.”
Initial investigations suggest the tragedy occurred after the boy climbed onto a sofa placed near a window in his family’s living room.
“During the incident, the window was found to be slightly open and unlocked,” Radin Ramlan added.
Police have opened an investigation paper under Section 31(1)(a) of the Children’s Act 2001 to determine the exact cause of the incident. The section specifically addresses the act of neglecting, abandoning, or exposing a child to danger, which can lead to criminal charges.
Authorities have issued a strong reminder to the public, especially parents and guardians, to be extra vigilant and pay close attention to their children’s surroundings to prevent similar tragedies.
