JOHOR BAHRU, May 11 — The issue of congestion involving heavy vehicle lanes on the Malaysia-Singapore Second Link at the Sultan Abu Bakar Complex (KSAB), which is alleged to be due to mandatory scanning inspections, will be brought to the attention of the Ministry of Home Affairs, said Transport Minister Anthony Loke.
Loke said that matters related to KSAB, including the operation of scanning machines, fall under the jurisdiction of the Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS), which is under the Home Ministry’s purview.
“The scanner is under the Customs Department and was previously a standard operating procedure (SOP), and is now taken over by the AKPS. So this is something that we always pay attention to. The Ministry of Transport will provide feedback to the Home Ministry,” he said.
He said this at a press conference after the launching ceremony of the national-level MyLesen B2 School Programme (MyB2S) 2026 here today.
Loke said that the issue of congestion at the Johor Causeway and Second Link is indeed a concern for the government, and a special mechanism has been established through the Johor Causeway Congestion Cabinet Committee to address the issue comprehensively.
“All operational issues will be discussed, implemented, and managed through this platform,” he said.
Previously, the media reported that lorry drivers wanting to enter Singapore were stranded for up to four hours at the Second Link.
The congestion on the heavy vehicle lane has reportedly been occurring since mid-February, causing distress among lorry drivers who have had to face the situation until now.
The congestion was also reported to have occurred following the implementation of mandatory scanning inspections on all heavy vehicles.
The lorry drivers described the measure as a temporary solution, with some of them needing to walk about 500 metres after parking their vehicles to deliver documents at the KSAB before returning to their lorries to undergo the scanning process. — Bernama
