KUALA PILAH, Aug 7 — The Yang Dipertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan, Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir, has reminded the state’s new executive councillors (Exco) to carry out the trust placed on them and their responsibilities with honesty, fairness and professionalism.

His Royal Highness also urged all Exco members not to abuse the powers entrusted to them for personal, family or friends’ interests, especially when making decisions on the awarding of government tenders or projects.

“As I have decreed before, the country needs leaders with strong principles or persons of honour.

“Abuse of power and position will lead to injustice and fragility in the implementation of policies formulated for the benefit of the people,” Tuanku Muhriz said during the appointment and swearing-in ceremony of the Negeri Sembilan State Executive Council members at Istana Besar Seri Menanti, Kuala Pilah, here today.

Accompanying His Royal Highness at the ceremony were Tunku Ampuan Besar Tuanku Aishah Rohani Tengku Besar Mahmud, Tunku Besar Seri Menanti Tunku Ali Redhauddin Tuanku Muhriz and Tunku Panglima Besar Tunku Zain Al-’Abidin Tuanku Muhriz.

Also present were the Undang Luak of Sungei Ujong, Datuk Klana Petra Muhammad Faris Johari; the Undang Luak of Rembau, Datuk Sedia Raja Hassan Ab Hamid; and Menteri Besar Datuk Ismail Lasim.

Tuanku Muhriz said the appointments represented a challenge for all the Exco members, who also serve as state assemblymen for their respective constituencies.

His Royal Highness said all the appointed leaders are responsible for formulating policies and the direction of the Negeri Sembilan state administration, with the interests of the state and the people’s well-being prioritised in every action and decision taken.

Tuanku Muhriz said the people have placed high expectations on the state government and, as such, every policy and plan must be implemented efficiently, transparently and effectively.

His Royal Highness added that the success of a government is not measured solely by good planning, but by its ability to deliver results that can be genuinely felt by the people.

Tuanku Muhriz also advised the new leadership to build on the achievements of the previous state government, particularly in attracting quality investments, increasing state revenue and creating more economic and employment opportunities for the people.

His Royal Highness said that Negeri Sembilan had recorded high investment figures and commendable growth in state revenue, and that these achievements must be maintained, strengthened and further enhanced so that the benefits could be enjoyed by all the people of Negeri Sembilan.

“At the same time, all weaknesses must be identified and continuously improved to ensure that the state administration remains excellent, high in integrity and effective,” Tuanku Muhriz said.

His Royal Highness also prayed that Negeri Sembilan will continue to enjoy peace, prosperity and blessings, and that all those entrusted with administering the state will always be guided towards making fair and wise decisions that prioritise the interests of the people.

The 16th Negeri Sembilan State Election saw Barisan Nasional (BN) win 18 state seats while Perikatan Nasional (PN) secured seven, enabling the two coalitions to form the state government with a two-thirds majority. — Bernama
