KUALA LUMPUR, May 21 — Two high-powered motorcycle riders pleaded not guilty in the Magistrates’ Court here today to charges of performing dangerous ‘wheelie’ stunts on the Setiawangsa-Pantai Expressway (SPE) early this month.

Khairul Azham Mohd Noor, 36, who works as a clerk, and Nashril Rosli, 31, a mechanic, made the plea after the charges against them were read out separately before Magistrate Tg Syazwany Yasmyn Tuan Roslan.

According to the charges, Khairul Azham, who was riding a Ducati Hypermotard 950, and Nashril, who was on a Ducati Panigale, were accused of lifting the front wheel of their motorcycles for a distance of 80 meters in a dangerous manner, posing a high risk and danger to themselves and other road users.

The act was allegedly committed at 11:00 am on May 9 at Kilometre 6.5 of the SPE Expressway, travelling from the city centre toward Putrajaya.

The charges were framed under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which carries a maximum prison sentence of five years and a fine of not less than RM5,000 and not more than RM15,000, as well as disqualification from holding a driving licence for five years, upon conviction.

Earlier, Prosecuting Officer Inspector Shazwan Hasifi Shahrun offered bail at RM2,000 for Nashril and RM3,000 for Khairul Azham, respectively, with one surety.

However, lawyers Akmal Taufiq and Infa Rozana, representing Khairul Azham and Nashril respectively, pleaded for lower bail amounts on the grounds that their clients are the primary breadwinners for their families and pose no flight risk.

The court then allowed each accused bail of RM3,000 with one surety and set July 8 for case mention for Nashril, and July 10 for Khairul Azham.

Previously, a video showing the dangerous stunts of the two motorcyclists went viral on social media, sparking concern among road users, before they were arrested by police at their respective residences on May 16. — Bernama
