KUALA LUMPUR, May 22 — Two men were remanded today to assist investigations into a gas cylinder explosion at an expo site near Dataran Jam Besar in Sungai Petani yesterday.

Kuala Muda police chief Assistant Commissioner Hanyan Ramlan said the two men, aged 38 and 18, were believed to be linked to the incident and the sale of children’s balloons at the expo site.

“They are believed to have been mixing chemicals,” he said when contacted by national daily Sinar Harian.

He added that the first suspect was remanded for four days, while the second was remanded for one day.

The case is being investigated under Section 304A of the Penal Code for causing death by negligence.

In the incident, one man was killed while three others were injured after a gas cylinder suddenly exploded.

Beverage seller Azmi Ahmad, 42, died from severe injuries to his right arm and the right side of his chest. Three other men, aged 15, 36 and 49, sustained injuries to various parts of their bodies.

It is understood that the gas cylinder was being used to fill children’s balloons for sale at the expo site.
