KANGAR, Aug 17 — Police detained a 46-year-old man over a viral social media post allegedly containing a threat to injure an individual with a sword.
Perlis acting police chief SAC Zaihairul Idrus said the Kedah-born suspect was detained in Langgar yesterday and remanded for three days from today.
“Police recovered the sword shown in the viral post from the suspect’s vehicle during the arrest.
“The case is being investigated under Section 6(1) of the Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Offensive Weapons Act 1958,” he said in a statement today.
He said the threat was believed to be linked to a personal dispute.
Zaihairul said police received a report yesterday regarding a threatening post that went viral on the “SAYA ANAK PERLIS” Facebook page, and the case is being investigated under Section 507 of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
He said police would take firm action against anyone who violated the law or attempted to provoke tensions and disrupt public order. — Bernama
