IPOH, Aug 28 — The West Coast Expressway (WCE) expects traffic on its operational stretches to exceed 150,000 vehicles a day during the 69th National Day celebrations and school holidays.

WCE said the increase is expected due to more people travelling to their hometowns and between states, particularly between the Klang Valley and destinations in Selangor and Perak.

Its Highway Operations head Syed Muhd Naguib Syed Mohd advised motorists to plan their journeys early and avoid peak hours, particularly from late afternoon to night.

“Our priority is the safety of every highway user. Plan your journey, get enough rest and never compromise safety just to save a few minutes,” he said in a statement today.

He said WCE would step up operational readiness along its open stretches, including 24-hour highway patrols, Emergency Response Teams (ERT) and continuous traffic monitoring.

Motorists are encouraged to use the WCE App for navigation and real-time traffic updates, including live CCTV footage, while emergency assistance is available through the WCE Infoline at 1700-81-6600, which operates 24 hours.

WCE also reminded motorists, particularly during the expected traffic surge, to ensure their vehicles are roadworthy, obey speed limits and use the emergency lane only when necessary. Motorcycle shelters are available along the highway for riders to rest or seek shelter from rain. — Bernama
