
KUALA LUMPUR, May 16 — Barely having recovered from the loss of renowned broadcast journalist Datuk Karam Singh Walia on April 6, his family has been struck by another tragedy after his eldest daughter passed away on Wednesday morning (May 13).
News of the passing of Sharonjit Kaur Walia, 44, was confirmed by her husband, Kashminder Singh Sandhu, who said she died in her sleep at their residence at D’Palma @ Taman Pinang Gading, Sikamat, Seremban, Negeri Sembilan.
“My wife passed away in her sleep. Prior to this, she did not suffer from any health problems,” he said when contacted by Bernama last night.
The ceremony to pay final respects was held yesterday at their residence, while prayer ceremonies will be held on May 24 at Gurdwara Sahib Seremban.
Kashminder said his wife was a senior English lecturer at the General Studies Department of Port Dickson Polytechnic and described her as a dedicated educator who touched many students’ lives through her passion for teaching and belief in the potential of her students.
“She not only educated minds but also inspired her students, leaving behind a legacy that will continue to live on in everyone she guided,” he said.
The couple are survived by two children, aged 10 and six.
News of the lecturer’s passing was also shared on Wednesday by Politeknik Port Dickson, Negeri Sembilan.
“The Politeknik Premier Port Dickson community is deeply saddened today by the passing of our friend and colleague, Puan Sharonjit Kaur A/P Karam Singh, lecturer at the General Studies Department.
“The entire institution extends its condolences to the family of the deceased over this painful loss. Her contributions, dedication and memories shared with her will always remain in our hearts,” the institution said in a Facebook post. — Bernama
