MELAKA, Aug 16 — Former Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun has expressed his readiness to step down as chairman of the Negeri Sembilan State Leadership Council (MPN) of Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) following the recent state election.
Aminuddin said he agreed with the demands of six PKR branch leaders in the state who are urging the party leadership to reassess its position after PKR only won two of the 15 state assembly seats contested.
“I also take note of the demands of the six Negeri Sembilan branch leaders who want me to take responsibility for the defeat. I would like to state publicly that I agree with your demands.
“I also accept this responsibility I am leading so I am ready to be responsible. I don’t want to run away from responsibility and I don’t want to hide behind various excuses,” he said.
He said this when delivering his closing speech on the second day of the National Congress of the Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) at Melaka International Trade Centre (MITC) here today.
Aminuddin said he left the final decision to the party leadership and was ready to accept any action for the future of PKR.
“The position is not mine, the trust belongs to the party. If the party sees that there is a decision that needs to be made for the future of Keadilan, I agree.
“But I would like to emphasise that defeat will not be a reason to stop fighting, on the contrary, this defeat must be the starting point for rebuilding and this is what we hope for,” he said.
In the Negeri Sembilan state election on August 1, PKR only managed to defend two seats, namely the Chuah and Sri Tanjung seats out of the total 15 constituencies contested in the state.
Apart from that, Aminuddin, who contested in the Linggi state seat, lost by a majority of 2,976 votes in a three-cornered race involving the incumbent from Barisan Nasional (BN) Datuk Mohd Faizal Ramli and Bersatu candidate Datuk Zamri Md Said.
Aminuddin received 6,163 votes while Datuk Mohd Faizal (9,139 votes) and Zamri (391 votes). — Bernama
