IPOH, May 13 — A disabled woman was killed, while her mother was injured, after their double-storey home at Parit 310, Bagan Tiang, near Parit Buntar, caught fire early today.

Perak Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) assistant director of operations Sabarodzi Nor Ahmad said the department received an emergency call at 2.34 am, and firemen from the Parit Buntar and Kuala Kurau stations were rushed to the scene.

He said the fire destroyed about 70 per cent of the double-storey house and also damaged a Proton Iriz car.

“A 48-year-old disabled woman was found dead inside the house, while her 71-year-old mother sustained injuries to both soles of her feet.

“The injured victim was handed over to the Ministry of Health for treatment, while the body was handed over to the police for further action,” he said in a statement.

In a separate incident, Sabarodzi said firefighters from the Bagan Serai station retrieved a man from a drain after the car he was driving skidded along Jalan Besar Bagan Serai-Taiping near Bagan Serai at about 2.30 am today.

“The Perodua Myvi car driven by the victim is believed to have veered onto the road shoulder before he was thrown into the drain. The 30-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene,” he said.
