KUANTAN, May 13 — Police have arrested two men suspected of involvement in a jewellery theft case at a gold shop in Jerantut last April 28.

Jerantut Acting Police Chief DSP Arshad Ayob said the suspects, aged 23 and 63, were detained at about 4pm last Monday at separate locations in Chow Kit, Kuala Lumpur.

“Police recovered gold bracelets and rings of various sizes believed to have been stolen in the incident, with an estimated market value of RM26,000. A motorcycle, mobile phone, bank cards and clothing were also seized to assist investigations,” he said in a statement today.

He added that background checks found both suspects had no prior criminal records, while initial urine screening tests returned negative for drug abuse.

The case is being investigated under Section 380 of the Penal Code for theft in a building.

On May 1, media reports stated that police were tracking down a man suspected of stealing jewellery worth nearly RM26,000 from a gold shop in Jerantut.

In the incident, which occurred at about 3pm, the suspect allegedly entered the premises pretending to purchase an engagement ring before fleeing with several pieces of jewellery from the display counter. — Bernama
