KOTA KINABALU, Sept 7 — The Coroner’s Court heard today that the father of the late Zara Qairina Mahathir was never asked for his consent regarding an autopsy on his daughter.

Testifying before Coroner Amir Shah Amir Hassan, Mahathir Mohd Hashim @ Marikin, 45, said a doctor confirmed Zara’s death in his presence at Queen Elizabeth Hospital I (HQE I) on July 17, 2025.

The 80th witness stated he stayed overnight at the hospital after arriving at the emergency unit on the afternoon of July 16 upon learning of her admission.

Mahathir told the court that a attending female doctor informed him Zara was in critical condition with a broken leg and severe internal bleeding in her brain, lungs, and kidneys, adding that she would remain permanently comatose if she survived.

He further testified that he observed blood on his daughter’s pillow, felt an apparent depression at the soft upper back of her neck when kissing her forehead, and noted her left leg was bandaged from thigh to sole. — Daily Express
