Malaysia Day: Selangor Sultan urges Malaysians to strengthen unity, cherish peace

SHAH ALAM, Sept 16 — The Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, has called on Malaysians to continue strengthening unity and appreciate the peace and harmony enjoyed by the country in conjunction with the Malaysia Day celebration today.

His Royal Highness also called on the people to nurture the spirit of tolerance and mutual respect, regardless of race, religion or culture.

“His Royal Highness always prays that this spirit of togetherness will continue to be upheld by the people in safeguarding the country’s well-being, so that Malaysia remains peaceful, prosperous and united for present and future generations,” read a post on the Selangor Royal Office Facebook page today.

The Sultan of Selangor said the annual celebration on September 16 serves as a reminder of the historic formation of Malaysia.

“His Royal Highness hopes that this meaningful date will always be remembered as a symbol of national unity that unites all the people in Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah and Sarawak in one sovereign country,” 

Sultan Sharafuddin and the Tengku Permaisuri of Selangor, Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin, also conveyed their Malaysia Day 2026 greetings to all Malaysians.
