PAS sets seven priorities for GE16, including wider political cooperation

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 4 — PAS has outlined seven strategic priorities as it prepares for the 16th General Election (GE16), including remaining open to cooperation with any political party as long as its principles are upheld.

The New Straits Times reported that PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang said the party’s Muslim unity agenda would see it continue defending Islam while honouring agreements reached with other parties.

“PAS is prepared to cooperate with any party on matters that benefit the country without compromising its policies and principles,” he said.

“These unity efforts are not limited to the national level but are also being embraced at the state, constituency and branch levels,” he said.

Abdul Hadi was speaking when delivering his policy speech at the opening of PAS’ 72nd Annual Muktamar in Kota Bharu, Kelantan, today.

He said the second priority was to defend PAS’ victories in the SG4 states of Kelantan, Kedah, Terengganu and Perlis, with the party seeking to retain every state and parliamentary seat it won in GE15.

The third priority is to expand PAS’ electoral gains in targeted states, while the fourth focuses on strengthening support among ulama, youth and Muslimat voters, as well as members of the Dewan Himpunan Pendukung PAS (DHPP).

The fifth priority is strengthening tarbiah and the party’s organisational structure, while the sixth centres on election machinery and information efforts aimed at securing victory.

Abdul Hadi said this would include selecting candidates who meet the required criteria, particularly those who demonstrate commitment to the party, integrity and influence within their communities.

The seventh priority is high-impact dakwah and welfare programmes.

Abdul Hadi also urged PAS members and its election machinery to use the muktamar for self-reflection while taking guidance from this year’s theme, “Islamic Solutions for Victory”.

He called on party members to strengthen their unity and discipline while widening PAS’ influence through dakwah, welfare and efforts to unite Muslims.
