KUALA LUMPUR, May 20 — Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul has confirmed receiving resignation notices from Datuk Seri Mohd Rafizi Ramli and Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad respectively as Members of Parliament for Pandan and Setiawangsa, effective May 18.

He said he had informed the Election Commission (EC) regarding the vacancies of the two parliamentary seats in accordance with Article 54(1) of the Federal Constitution.

“Any decision regarding the implementation of by-elections for the Pandan and Setiawangsa parliamentary seats is subject to the consideration and decision of the EC,” he said in a statement here today.

On Monday, Rafizi, who is former PKR deputy president, and Nik Nazmi, the party’s former vice-president, also announced their departure from the party through letters addressed to the party secretary-general.

They subsequently took over a political party known as Parti Bersama Malaysia (BERSAMA), a small political party based in Penang. — Bernama
